Jordan Balkany

President, ICIT

Jordan Balkany is President of the Thomas Balkany Institute for Cochlear Implant Training (ICIT), a nonprofit dedicated to advancing clinical excellence in cochlear implantation. ICIT was founded by Jordan’s father, Dr. Thomas Balkany, a world-renowned cochlear implant surgeon and pioneer in the field. Jordan left a career in finance to work full-time alongside his father in his final years, and served as Vice President for many years, helping grow ICIT from a single course for cochlear implant surgeons into a comprehensive training program serving the full spectrum of hearing healthcare providers, including audiologists, speech-language pathologists, deaf educators, auditory-verbal therapists, and multidisciplinary clinical teams. ICIT’s courses are distinguished by a faculty of renowned CI clinicians and researchers who are leaders in the field, and by a unique course structure: each 10-12 week program combines web-based learning modules and live weekly web classes with in-person, hands-on training, such as CI programming practicums for audiologists and temporal bone labs for surgeons. Since taking over as President, Jordan has continued to carry forward his father’s mission of optimizing clinical outcomes in cochlear implantation by expanding access to high-quality, specialized training. To date, ICIT has trained more than 1,600 cochlear implant professionals from the United States and 55 countries worldwide.
