About Ira Papel

In practice since 1987, Dr. Ira D. Papel specializes in Facial Plastic Surgery for the residents of Baltimore and Washington, DC, as well as surrounding Maryland areas such as Annapolis, Harford County, and Towson. He is board certified in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. These disciplines combine the functional and aesthetic concerns of the nose, face, head and neck into one integrated specialty. Dr. Papel believes that his knowledge of the latest techniques in both specialties, combined with an extensive surgical experience in rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and facial cosmetic surgery provides the best in patient care and outcomes. Dr. Papel is a past president of both the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he is a co-director of the Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship. His textbook, entitled Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 4th edition, has become an important resource for surgeons around the world. He has also published extensively on the subject of rhinoplasty and cosmetic facial surgery, with more than 100 publications in medical journals and textbooks. Dr. Papel is a frequent invited speaker at facial plastic surgery meetings. He has served as a visiting professor at more than 30 universities in the USA, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia.
